3D scanning and reconstruction service
Offer scanning with a clear distinction between raw scan data, cleaned mesh and editable CAD reconstruction.
Three different scanning deliverables
- Distinguish
- Raw scan / cleaned mesh / editable CAD
- Check
- Known scale and independent dimension
- Document
- Occluded or missing surfaces
TECHNICAL NOTES///
Offer scanning with a clear distinction between raw scan data, cleaned mesh and editable CAD reconstruction.
GOALRun the first test described in this guide and record the result for 3d scanning and reconstruction service.
STEPS
- Define object size, finish, access, portability and the dimensions that actually matter.
- Plan fixturing, markers and any approved temporary surface treatment. Capture overlapping passes and measure a known reference.
- Clean the mesh conservatively, documenting holes or occluded surfaces rather than silently filling critical geometry.
- Deliver the requested mesh or CAD reconstruction with units, alignment and a statement of checked dimensions.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Scanner marketing accuracy is not the uncertainty of every finished deliverable. Do not advertise a scanner as in service until it is available and its workflow has been tested.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
Scanner marketing accuracy is not the uncertainty of every finished deliverable. Do not advertise a scanner as in service until it is available and its workflow has been tested.
RESULTCheck scale and at least one independent dimension that was not used to align the model.
DEVELOPMENT HISTORY///
Imported as an independent manifest record; public copy keeps uncertainty visible.
Connected the newer project records: HOW-PIKA-001, CAD-SMOKER-CAP-001. Existing test limitations remain in place.
SPECIFICATION///
RELEASED MATERIAL///
Check scale and at least one independent dimension that was not used to align the model.
The record keeps what is known at this revision. Unfinished tests stay unfinished here.
