STL/3MF/STEP/DXF digital downloads
Package each file format for its actual purpose so customers do not mistake a mesh for editable parametric CAD.
A mesh is not a feature tree
- STL
- Mesh; units need explicit statement
- 3MF
- Print/project information may be machine-specific
- STEP
- Neutral geometry, not native feature history
- DXF
- Suitable 2D geometry
TECHNICAL NOTES///
Package each file format for its actual purpose so customers do not mistake a mesh for editable parametric CAD.
GOALRun the first test described in this guide and record the result for stl/3mf/step/dxf digital downloads.
STEPS
- Include STL for mesh geometry, 3MF for supported print-project information, STEP for neutral solid/surface exchange and DXF for suitable 2D geometry.
- State units, dimensions, intended software, required hardware/material and the license for each download.
- Reopen every export in an independent viewer or target application. Verify scale, body count, contours and any embedded printer-specific settings.
- Bundle a README, preview and version identifier; provide files only after the site’s intended authorization/payment checks.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- STL does not reliably carry units. A 3MF may contain machine-specific settings. A STEP file does not guarantee a native feature tree. Do not distribute third-party models without permission.
