OPEN FULL SIZE ↗A rear-cargo section shows an upper leak path, water behind trim and saturated floor padding above a spare-wheel well. Arrows show possible paths, not a confirmed source.Explanatory drawing based on this record
Trace water from the highest fresh wet point and isolate one source at a time.

GOALRun the first test described in this guide and record the result for tiguan wet rear floor and spare-tire well.
EQUIPMENT
Basic inspection tools
Service information for the exact model
Notebook or photo record
STEPS
Remove loose cargo and document wet areas after rain or washing; inspect under the cargo floor without disturbing wiring.
Dry accessible surfaces, then test one region at a time with gentle water: roof/drain area, hatch perimeter, lamps or other suspected openings.
Check whether water tracks from above, runs along trim or pools from a lower seam.
Repair the confirmed path and dry padding as well as carpet; inspect nearby electrical connectors if they were wetted.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The lowest puddle is often not the entry point. Do not reseal every seam blindly or block designed drains. Saturated foam can remain wet after the carpet feels dry.
SAFETY / LIMITS
Use qualified judgment and current manufacturer or code guidance for safety-critical work.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
The lowest puddle is often not the entry point. Do not reseal every seam blindly or block designed drains. Saturated foam can remain wet after the carpet feels dry.
RESULTA repeated isolated water test stays dry and moisture does not return beneath the padding.
