GOALRun the first test described in this guide and record the result for aquarium-parts project.

EQUIPMENT

  • FDM printer / slicer
  • Slicer project
  • Calipers or inspection method

MATERIALS

  • Material requires confirmation

STEPS

  • Define whether the part is a dry external bracket or immersed hardware. Prefer external placement when it meets the need.
  • For immersed use, obtain composition and water-contact suitability information for filament, pigments, coating and metal hardware. Avoid unknown additives, exposed magnets and metal-filled materials.
  • Design broad radii, removable cleaning access and openings that cannot trap fish. Print a separate fit sample before the complete part.
  • Test the cured, cleaned item in a separate container before installation; monitor appearance and water parameters. Keep critical aeration or filtration independent of an unproven printed bracket.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • PLA or PETG labels alone do not certify aquarium safety. Printed layers can collect debris. An uneventful soak cannot prove a material will not leach contaminants over time.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR

PLA or PETG labels alone do not certify aquarium safety. Printed layers can collect debris. An uneventful soak cannot prove a material will not leach contaminants over time.

RESULTConfirm cleanability, secure retention and absence of sharp edges; keep formulation and maintenance notes.
