Bobber and cut-bait catfish rig
Suspend cut bait above bottom debris or at the depth fish are using. Tactics are starting approaches, not a live bite report. Check current access, posted restrictions, species limits, bait rules, weather and water advisories for the exact water before a trip.

TECHNICAL NOTES///

GOALRun the first test described in this guide and record the result for bobber and cut-bait catfish rig.
PREPARATION / NOTES
Tactics are starting approaches, not a live bite report. Check current access, posted restrictions, species limits, bait rules, weather and water advisories for the exact water before a trip.
EQUIPMENT
- Rod and reel matched to the target species
- Hooks, line, sinkers, and landing tools
- Notebook or phone field log
MATERIALS
- Bait or lure identified in the next field log
STEPS
- Slide a bobber stop and bead onto the line, then add a suitable slip float, weight, swivel and hook leader.
- Use the smallest float that reliably supports the bait and sinker without being pulled under by current.
- Set the bait just above the bottom or cover as a starting point; adjust depth based on bites.
- Drift along an edge or fish a controlled stationary presentation, keeping the hook point clear of the bait.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Cut bait must be legal for the water and source species. Too much float resistance can obscure light bites; too little buoyancy creates false bite signals.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR
Cut bait must be legal for the water and source species. Too much float resistance can obscure light bites; too little buoyancy creates false bite signals.
RESULTThe float stays upright and the bait tracks at the intended depth without dragging continuously.
