The White Lady in Montmorency’s Spray

Legend set during the events of 1759

BACK IN THE DAYLIGHT

Following the trail

A recorded story, with its history attached

Québec’s park operator Sépaq recounts this as the Dame blanche legend, using conditional language for the apparition. The page supplies no contemporary record identifying Mathilde and her fiancé. Its wartime setting should be distinguished from a verified biography, and the story’s romantic explanation should not be treated as a factual account of an individual death.

Why it stays with us

The waterfall makes this different from an indoor White Lady. The supposed figure can appear and disappear without ever leaving the same place, because the surrounding landscape is already constantly changing shape.
