Akershus’s Knight in the Serpent Yard

Medieval fortress; undated knight tradition

BACK IN THE DAYLIGHT

Following the trail

A recorded story, with its history attached

The museum’s fortress account describes the sixteenth-century cannon tower, its narrow gun ports and the underground route toward the King’s Casemate. It introduces the knight as something many people believe, not a documented military event. Visit Norway separately records stories of whispers, scratches and guards feeling pushed while alone; it does not establish that these reports belong to the same apparition.

Why it stays with us

The setting supplies the tension. Thick protective walls can become confining when the supposed intruder is already on their inner side.
