The account
The Pink Room’s haunting has a sequence. First come the cries, apparently issuing from near a passage cut through a thick wall. Then light appears, and a boy dressed in blue approaches the bed. Richard Jones’s collected version calls him the Radiant Boy. A further episode supplies an explanation: a child’s remains and fragments of blue cloth are supposedly discovered behind the masonry. After burial the apparition ceases, only for later guests to report a blue flash from the wall. The legend manages to find both an ending and a way around it.

A recorded story, with its history attached
Great Castles reproduces this account with Jones’s permission from Haunted Castles of Britain and Ireland. The reported discovery of remains is part of that ghost narrative; this source does not provide an excavation report or identify the child. Chillingham’s own website promotes its haunting tradition, but promotion cannot resolve those missing particulars.
Why it stays with us
The changing light is the memorable part: first a person, later only a flash. It lets the story continue even when the supposed explanation has already been completed.
