The account
Near Elkhorn, Wisconsin, reports in the 1980s and early 1990s described a large, hairy creature with a wolf-like head. Some accounts placed it upright; others described movement on all fours. Reporter Linda Godfrey began covering the story for The Week in December 1991, and further reports followed. The name tied these encounters to Bray Road, even as stories spread beyond it. A familiar rural route became a place where drivers might reconsider an animal shape at the edge of their headlights.

Neither source supplies an authenticated specimen of a distinct upright wolf creature. A reporter’s judgment that witnesses seem sincere does not establish a biological identity, and accounts from different roads or decades should not be treated as repeat observations of one demonstrable individual.

The shift between four legs and two carries the fear. A wolf-like body at the roadside can belong to the landscape; the same outline standing differently seems to cross into another category. The reports remain suspended at that change in posture.
