Old Changi’s Guardhouse Lights
Old Changi Hospital’s reputation draws people expecting an encounter. A reported visit with a paranormal investigator produced flashing equipment outside the compound, and a surprisingly calm description of the place.
The account
The building had already become a ghost-story destination when CNA visited with paranormal investigator Noel Boyd. Outside Old Changi Hospital, in a small disused guardhouse, his electromagnetic-field detector suddenly lit its row of indicators, then stopped. Boyd interpreted the changing lights as a nearby presence. The report also preserves a less expected part of his account: he found the old hospital calming and thought its reputation could make it sound scarier than it was. An abandoned place, a waiting observer and a flashing instrument supplied the incident; the reporter did not see a ghost step out of a ward.
Following the trail
CNA’s 2021 report identifies its interviewee, location and what the device did. A field detector responding is not, by itself, evidence of a deceased person. Singapore’s government heritage account likewise recognises the hospital’s haunting reputation without validating it. The modern stories should not be recast as authenticated accounts from its earlier military history.
Why it stays with us
The useful tension is between expectation and experience. People arrived with an international reputation already in mind, yet the named investigator’s own description includes curiosity and calm as well as the possibility of a presence.
