The account
The nurse looks reassuring before she looks impossible. In Mexican hospital stories, La Planchada arrives in a spotless, carefully pressed uniform and tends someone during the night. She may comfort the patient or provide care, then disappear before the next shift can identify her. The following morning supplies the disturbance: nobody on duty matches the description. Versions offer different reasons for her return. Some make her an admirable nurse whose work continues after death; others say she is trying to make amends for failures during her life. The bedside scene remains recognisable while the moral explanation changes.

Cultura Genial’s folklore account places the tradition especially around Mexico City’s Hospital Juárez and discusses its spread through twentieth-century hospital stories. It explicitly notes that no documented biography establishes the familiar nurse named Eulalia and her alleged supernatural career. The competing backstories should remain alternatives, rather than a combined historical life.
