EXTRACTED KNOWLEDGE / HOW-TO FROM CONVERSATION
QUESTION / CONTEXT: I have all kinds of material I can 3d print with. What would be a good material to print press break does with
- *PA6-CF with 20% carbon fiber is one of the better materials you could try for printed press-brake tooling. For short 3-inch tooling sections, I’d choose it over PLA, PETG, ASA, and probably standard PC for most experimental forming.
- *Easiest → hardest: ASA → PP → PA6-CF20 → PC
- *PC is excellent mechanically, but it's the one I'd least want to print a big, nearly-solid die from unless there was a reason—it wants high temperatures and is much more prone to warping/internal stress.
- PC-CF — my pick for printed press-brake tooling
- PA6-CF20 — potentially excellent strength/toughness, but moisture and dimensional changes are more annoying
- Regular PC — very tough, but significantly more prone to warping
- ASA — easiest inexpensive prototype tooling
- PP — specialized compliant forming dies rather than rigid tooling
